Kreigsmarine ships clock by Kieninger & Obergfell

SOLD

Code: 55541

A quite beautiful example of a  Kreigsmarine ships clock by Kieninger & Obergfell. Standard on all Kriegsmarine vessels, including U Boats, these clocks have a brass case, originally painted black but most usually, as is the case here, with the paint later removed for appearance purposes.

Serviced in 2020 the clock runs well and keeps good time but is sometimes a little reluctant to start running if left for some time unwound. It will arrive in good working condition but as with any vintage mechanical clock I am unable to offer a long term guarantee as all old clocks will need a service from time to time.

The silvered dial is in excellent condition. All marking are of course guaranteed original and show the clock to have been issued to the North Sea Fleet and although no wartime history remains, it was acquired from a Frenchman in the Lorient area of France, of course an Atlantic Port.

The case back carries the serial number 3888, the last two digits 88 appearing on the hinge and lock of the glass opening window, exactly as we would hope to see.

The clock is without damage, the case free of dents and with the three fitting lugs in place.

I am a vocal critic of those who sell fakes of these clocks at some of the fairs around the UK and on eBay, most of which originate from a Glaswegian fraudster living in Edinburgh. Naturally this example is guaranteed absolutely original and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity if required.
