RAF Electrically Wired Irvin Jacket C.1939

SOLD

Code: 55565

Although almost always referred to as an electrically heated Irvin Jacket this “Thermally Insulated Flying Jacket” carries the wiring and connectors for the heated gloves and boots when worn with the trousers of the “Thermally Insulated Flying Suit”.

In quite outstanding condition this C.1939 example is without damage of any kind with all three early dot zips working perfectly, the fur showing none of the usual wear to the cuffs or lower edge of the jacket. The hanging chain is in place but there is no label although the period of the Jacket is clearly determined by the single seam at the back and indeed the wiring itself.

A good size 40” chest at least my only comment would relate to the three electrical leads, two of which connect to the trousers and ultimately the boots and the third being the main connection to the aircraft system. In my view these have probably been restored using an original main connector plug, original plugs and indeed recycled period leather from a similar donor. All expertly done this does not in my view detract in any way.

A rare example especially in this condition.
