Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery Officer's Peaked (Visor) Cap

SOLD

Code: 55908

A fine example of Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery Officer’s Cap in a high grade field grey wool. Kriegsmarine personnel permanently assigned to shore stations, to include coastal artillery, wore the grey green uniform in the same style as the German Army. The officer’s Caps varied in shape and are seen in both the well known saddle form or, in my opinion, the far more desirable full cut seen with the Caps worn with the Kriegsmarine Blue uniform. This example is the latter.

A large size the Cap is in overall very good service used condition with one 10mm diameter moth hole on the right side just below the dark green piping.  Above the right wing of the eagle there is some loss the covering of the piping which may again be the result of moth. Other than that, I can find only four pin head sized moth nips on the brim.

The eagle is hand embroidered in a Celleon wire whilst the cockade is a machine embroidered golden cotton thread on a grey green backing.

The chincord  has toned slightly and remains secured at each side by a single gilt button by FLL , dated 1941. Below the chincord is the peak or visor in black vulkan fibre which is completely free from damage.

Inside, the shallow sweatband is without damage with all stitching in place. The dark blue imitation silk lining is clean and intact but missing its diamond shaped moisture protector.

A lovely and rare Cap.
